Broken links erode rankings and trust, one click at a time
A page that got deleted two redesigns ago and never had its internal links updated. A vendor page that moved and now 404s. A redirect chain that quietly grew from one hop to three every time the site got restructured. None of it looks urgent day to day, but broken links waste crawl budget, frustrate visitors mid-conversion, and are one of the most common findings in any technical SEO audit. For regulated-industry clients — treatment centers, campaigns, financial services — a dead link on an intake, donation, or application page doesn’t just hurt rankings, it strands someone mid-decision.
This free check samples the links and images on any one page and tells you exactly what is broken, so you can fix it before it costs you rankings or a customer who gave up and left.
- Found a 3-hop redirect chain on an internal link — each extra hop adds latency and dilutes link equity passed to the destination page.

The Four Scoring Categories
- Internal Link Health
- Whether a sample of up to 15 internal links on the page load successfully, the single clearest and most fixable SEO/UX problem this tool exists to catch.
- Redirect Chain Risk
- Whether any checked link chains through multiple redirect hops before resolving, and how many of the checked links redirect at all.
- External Link Health
- Whether a sample of up to 10 outbound links load successfully, and whether the page has any outbound citations at all.
- Broken Image / Asset Risk
- Whether a sample of up to 15 images on the page load successfully, and whether any image tags are missing a src attribute entirely.
Key Terms
- 404 Error
- The HTTP status code returned when a requested page no longer exists at that address.
- Redirect Chain
- A series of multiple redirects a browser must follow before reaching the final page, which slows load time and can confuse crawlers.
- HTTP Status Code
- The three-digit number a server returns describing the result of a page request, such as 200 (OK), 301 (redirect), or 404 (not found).
- Broken Link
- A hyperlink that points to a page or resource that no longer loads correctly.
- Crawl Budget
- The number of pages a search engine will crawl on a site within a given time, wasted when bots keep hitting dead links.
Broken Link & 404 Quick Scan FAQ
Does this crawl my whole site?
No, and we want to be clear about that. This checks the links and images found on the one page you submit, one level deep, sampled up to 15 internal links, 10 external links, and 15 images. It is not a substitute for a full-site crawl (Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, Google Search Console), it is a fast way to spot obvious problems on a specific page.
What exactly does it check?
It checks four things: whether sampled internal links load successfully, whether any checked link chains through multiple redirects before resolving, whether sampled external links load successfully and whether the page has outbound citations at all, and whether sampled images load successfully or are missing a src attribute entirely.
Why do broken links matter for SEO?
Broken internal links waste crawl budget and dilute the link equity that would otherwise flow to your important pages. They also frustrate real visitors, especially mid-conversion on a form or checkout flow. Long redirect chains add latency and can eventually get dropped by crawlers that give up after a few hops.
Can it check pages that need a login?
No. The tool can only read pages and links that are publicly reachable, and it blocks local and internal addresses for security reasons on both the page you submit and every link it checks.
Will it flag a link that's actually fine?
Occasionally. Some servers block automated HEAD or GET requests from tools like this one (a 403 response), even though a real visitor in a browser can reach the page fine. Treat any flagged link as a prompt to click it yourself and confirm, not an automatic certainty.
Is this really free?
Yes. Enter a URL and your email, and you get your results immediately. No credit card and no sales call required to see your score.
What do you do with my URL and email?
Your URL is used only to fetch that one page and check its links, and is not stored beyond your result. Your email is used to send your results and, occasionally, related technical SEO content. You can unsubscribe at any time.
What if my score comes back as high risk?
A high-risk score usually points to a specific, fixable gap, most often a handful of dead internal links or a redirect chain that grew over time. Your results include a plain-English list of what was flagged, and we recommend fixing the internal links first since those carry the most SEO weight.

Broken links are a symptom; these two tools catch related causes.
- Sitemap & Robots.txt Health Checker — a stale sitemap often points straight at the pages this tool finds broken.
- URL Canonicalization & Redirect Consistency Checker — bad redirect chains and broken links usually trace back to the same root cause: inconsistent URL structure.
- HTTP Security Headers Checker — both are quick technical-health passes worth running together after any site migration or redesign.
Built by an agency that treats technical SEO as ongoing maintenance
Tridigiam runs technical SEO audits, including link-health checks, as a standing part of every client engagement, not a one-time cleanup. Sites accumulate broken links and redirect chains constantly as pages get renamed, vendors change, and content gets restructured, so we catch it before it compounds.
If your score flags something real, or you want a full-site crawl instead of a one-page sample, a strategy call is free and there is no obligation.
