No conversion tracking. No negative keywords. Traffic dumped on the homepage instead of a real landing page. Ads that never get paused even after 90 days of underperforming. None of it is exotic, and none of it requires a bigger budget to fix — it just requires knowing where to look first.
This free calculator walks through the same checklist we use when we take over a new paid media account, so you can see roughly how much of your spend is likely working against you before you commit to spending more.
What the calculator actually estimates
We estimate waste across four areas. Tracking & Measurement checks whether conversion tracking is verified and whether search term reports get reviewed. Targeting Precision checks for negative keywords and campaign overlap. Landing Experience checks whether traffic lands on a dedicated page or just your homepage. Ongoing Optimization checks whether underperformers get pruned and whether you use dayparting.
This is a self-reported estimate based on your answers and common patterns we see across paid media accounts, not a live audit of your actual account. Answer honestly and you will get a genuinely useful starting point.
- Conversion tracking gaps mean an estimated portion of spend can’t be attributed to a result either way.

Key Terms
Wasted Ad Spend
Budget spent on clicks or impressions that were never likely to convert, such as an irrelevant search term or an ad shown to the same fatigued audience too many times. It's usually invisible until someone looks at the search terms or frequency data directly.
Quality Score
Google's 1-10 diagnostic score for Search keywords, based on expected click-through rate, ad relevance, and landing page experience. It isn't itself an auction input, but a low score is a strong signal that you're paying more per click than you should.
Negative Keywords
Terms you tell Google Ads not to trigger your ads for. Unmanaged negative keyword lists are one of the largest sources of wasted spend in Search campaigns, commonly driving 15-30% of wasted non-brand budget.
Ad Frequency / Creative Fatigue
How many times, on average, the same person has seen your ad (impressions divided by reach). On Meta, prospecting campaigns above roughly 2.5-3 frequency and retargeting above 4-6 typically start seeing rising costs per result.
Search Terms Report
The Google Ads report showing the literal queries that triggered your ads, as opposed to the keywords you targeted. It's the primary source for finding new negative keywords and diagnosing where budget is leaking.
Ad Spend Waste Calculator FAQ
Does this tool connect to my actual Google Ads or Meta Ads account?
No. This is a self-report checklist, not a live account connection. You answer 8 questions about how your account is run and enter your monthly spend, and we estimate waste based on your answers. Nothing connects to your ad accounts.
Is this really free?
Yes. Enter your spend, answer the questions, and enter your email, and you get your estimate immediately. No credit card and no sales call required to see your results.
How is the waste percentage calculated?
Each "no" answer adds an estimated waste percentage based on how much that particular gap typically costs, drawn from common patterns we see across the paid media accounts we manage. Even a well-run account carries some baseline inefficiency, so the estimate never goes below 5%.
Can you guarantee I will actually recover this much in savings?
No, and you should be cautious of anyone who does. This is an estimate based on your self-reported answers, not an audit of your actual account data. It is meant to show where common waste tends to hide, not to promise a specific dollar recovery.
What do you do with my spend figures and email?
Your spend figure and answers are used only to calculate your estimate and are not sold or shared. Your email is used to send your results and, occasionally, related paid media content. You can unsubscribe at any time.
What if my estimated waste comes back high?
A high estimate just means there are specific, fixable gaps in how the account is run. Your results include a plain-English list of what to fix in each category, and you are welcome to book a free strategy call if you want help prioritizing them.
